Dr. Vlastou is a highly distinguished Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon with more than four decades of international clinical, academic, and surgical experience. She is Director of the Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Department at Hygeia Hospital, a position she has held continuously since 1988.
She served for 15 years as Assistant Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Case Western Reserve University (Cleveland, Ohio, USA), where she was actively involved in the education and hands-on training of medical students and residents. Her academic and teaching activity extends to long-standing participation in advanced microsurgical training programs and the organization of specialized educational seminars.
She is an internationally recognized expert in reconstructive microsurgery, breast reconstruction after mastectomy, facial nerve paralysis, free flap surgery, and complex reconstruction of the hand and extremities. Her clinical expertise also includes cranio-maxillofacial reconstruction and management of complex oncologic and post-traumatic defects.
Dr. Vlastou holds leadership roles in major international scientific societies, including the World Society for Reconstructive Microsurgery, where she has served as Executive Council Member and Chair of the Scientific Council.
